Records Search Service
Our records search service provides location-specific cultural resources data specifically for locations within either a one-mile or two-mile radius of your site and can be obtained as a shapefile, for those with GIS capabilities, at no additional charge. The information may be used as appropriate in your submission to SHPO when you initiate consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Please keep in mind that the information provided is for known sites, so it will be necessary to conduct fieldwork to assemble the full array of information needed to meet Section 106 needs.
If you anticipate regular utilization of this service, you may establish a direct bill account with our office. Contact the Grants Manager at 614.298.2000 for application information.

Historic Preservation Consultants
Individuals on these lists meet federal professional qualification requirements for one or more of seven fields. The qualifications define minimum education and experience required to perform identification, evaluation, registration, and treatment activities. The lists are provided as an aid to those seeking the services of a historic preservation consultant and are published with the understanding that neither the Ohio History Connection nor the State Historic Preservation Office in any manner recommends, endorses, or assumes responsibility for the quality of work of any individual or firm on the list, nor is there any guarantee, implicit or implied, that any work product produced by those on the list will necessarily meet federal and state requirements.
Are you a professional in one of the following fields and want to be included on the SHPO Consultants List?
Please complete the appropriate documentation form(s) and submit to our office for consideration.
To be considered, download and complete a qualification form for one or more of the seven professional fields. Once we receive your completed form and $60 annual fee, we will respond in writing to let you know either that your name will be added to the list or that we need more information. Submit your completed request and $60 fee by check made payable to Ohio History Connection to: Education and Support Services, State Historic Preservation Office, 800 E. 17th Ave., Columbus, OH 43211-2474.
To qualify, submit documentation showing that you meet the federal professional qualification requirements for one or more of these fields. For Historic Landscape Architecture and Historic Preservation Planning the standards used are those proposed by the National Park Service for these two areas. Archaeologists who have been evaluated and certified by the Register of Professional Archeologists (RPA) are also identified on the list.
By submitting the qualification documentation form, consultants agree to follow SHPO guidance and processes regarding research, scholarship, presentation of prepared documents, and accepted methods for citing and quoting another’s work, published sources, and copyrighted material. They also pledge to carry out work in an ethical and professional manner.
